In today’s world, the most lovable mammal is a dog. The dogs are majorly loved by their senses and the response, they give to humans. Dogs consist of many types of breeds. The efficiency of dogs may vary from each other. Every breed carries their own likelihood. Did you know that the dogs do have the taste buds? Can you imagine an animal could have taste buds? It sounds challenging to digest the term that dogs do have their taste buds. The dog’s sense is much discriminating then humans. Often a human has 9,000 taste buds, and a dog has around 1,700 taste buds.

This comparison to an animal is considered to be of a great quantity/ quality? From the numerical conclusions, we can say that human taste buds are six times more effective than the dog’s taste buds.

 

Taste buds

According to the research about the dog’s taste buds, the result says that the taste for a dog is also categorized in the same way as the human taste. It is classified, that is, sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. Other than these four under-categorized taste buds dogs have a unique taste bud. This taste bud is not found in humans that is the taste bud for identification of the taste of water.

 

Taste buds exclusively for dogs

This unique taste bud is present on the top of their tongue. It curls as the animal lap’s water it reacts to water every time when dogs consume water. Majorly it is seen that when dogs consume something salty or sugary, the taste buds become more active and effective. The efficiency increases after consuming salty or sweet food.

Considering the taste buds especially for the dogs, one can say that dogs do not have an affinity towards salt as compared to humans and other animals. It can be noted as because the forebears from their family comprised of eating habit with about 80% meat. They lived in a wild environment, and as it is known that meat widely is salty food. Therefore dogs do not have an affinity for salt.

 

Dogs character from omnivores family

Dogs are the group of mammals which comes under carnivorous as well as omnivores. Signifying from an omnivorous ancestry, the dog has an inherited liking character for sweet. Their ancestors have tasted from the natural world of fruits and some vegetables. The sweet taste words in dogs respond to a chemical called as furaneol. The flavor of this furaneol is present in most of the fruits and tomatoes. Hence dogs are found to be fond of the sweet taste.

 

Food taste

Talking about eating habits or more precisely the taste buds. It is scientifically proved that dogs do not choose their food by its taste. They are mostly concerned about its smell. Thus the more delicious is the smell, the more is the demand for that particular food.

 

Taste plus smell equals yummy food.

Dogs are god gifted with their smell sense. This sense is about a million times stronger than humans. There are many facts to clear the viewpoint of the strength of smelling sense. One is “It’s not only dogs can differentiate between meat based and non-meat based by its taste, but they can also distinguish between the type of meat-based (chicken, beef, fish or pork) by its smelling sense. As one can notice a bunch of dogs near the garbage dumps feeding. One or more type of eatery especially canned products. Considering the scientific aspect of the location and mechanism of how these taste buds settle. They are located in the little bumps called as or know as taste papillae all over their tongue. Each papilla houses three to five taste buds. Each taste bud contains 10 to 50 sensory cells. These sensory cells transmit information through their chemical mechanism to the registered brain area. Thus this is how dogs are able to taste, the taste of a particular food item. Also, they put them on their preference list.

It is scientifically proved that dogs have a disliking for the bitter taste. As furniture and other objects have good taste. Even dogs are often found to be chewing it. They are coated with specific elements which taste bitter. For example Alum or various substances from hot papers. Coating furniture and other objects with these bitter taste substances keep dogs away from destroying the furniture.

 

Appetite

Not only the smell and the taste of the food can make a difference in the appetite of the dog. Moreover, the environmental temperature can also affect the appetite. For a painting dog, it is hard for him to sniff or smell the food. So he may not want to eat. If the dog is an outside dog, the reduction in the temperature can result in the decrease in the aroma. Therefore, he can think of the food as less a pealing.

There are many fundamental for tasting. The more is the quantity of the taste buds the more is the taste. As dogs have less amount of taste buds, it can consume extraordinarily spicy or extremely sugary food.

 

Elderly dog

As it is seen a loss of appetite in the elderly human the same process is reflected for dogs. The reason behind the loss of appetite in the dogs is the fact. With the growing age, the senses for the taste decrease. Also, more importantly, the smell becomes less acute. To make a higher age dog to eat more food is a concerned topic. To improve his apatite one can make try to provide him food with strong fragrance. Which can make dogs appeal for their food.

 

Preferable food

It is found worldwide that dogs consider eating food with a good smell and taste. Some of the dog approved foods are peanut butter, cooked chicken, cheese, baby carrots, yogurt, salmon, pumpkin, eggs, green beans, apple slice, oatmeal, etc. All of the food mentioned above has a good quantity of heart-healthy fats, proteins, vitamin-B, and vitamin-E. These foods are tummy filling, so dogs do not demand food for an extended period of time.
